The University of Geneva, the Geneva Canton (DEAS) and the Swiss Confederation (FDFA), jointly with the Swiss Trading & Shipping Association (STSA), the Swiss Coffee Trading Association (SCTA) and Swisscontact have launched the Swiss Research Institute on Commodities.
The Swiss Research Institute on Commodities aims at providing a solid basis for decision-making both in the public and in the private sector through in-depth analysis of issues related to commodity trading, trade finance and shipping as well as disseminating knowledge and providing a platform for discussion.
Given the proximity with both the Swiss trading hub and Geneva-based International Organizations, research will focus on specific issues related to the Swiss trading hub, yet placed within the larger international context. Researchers will provide a critical perspective on commodity-related issues and will create a “commodity literacy” to allow all stakeholders to better communicate with one another and enhance understanding.
The legal form of the research institute on commodities is a foundation governed by the Swiss Civil Code. The Swiss Research Institute on Commodities is being established in Geneva in the form of a Foundation.
The first members of the Foundation Council are (in alphabetical order): Samuel BON (Swisscontact), Alexandre EPALLE (Geneva Canton, Department of Employment, Social Affairs and Health), Stéphane GRABER (STSA), Bernard MORARD (University of Geneva), Nicolas TAMARI (Swiss Coffee Trading Association), Jean-Dominique VASSALLI (University of Geneva), Claude WILD (Federal Department of Foreign Affairs).
