STSA Mission Statement
STSA's mission is to provide a neutral platform of exchange for professionals of the commodity trading industry and to enhance the understanding of this industry in the general public.
To this end, STSA is building positive relationships with the authorities and related stakeholders, explains the economic and social relevance of the industry and promotes education and training by leveraging the rich expertise of the Swiss commodity hub.
STSA defends the interests of the industry in public and creates value-added, tailor-made services for its members.
STSA, the sector's umbrella association
The Swiss Trading & Shipping Association (STSA) is a non-profit, non-political Swiss association representing companies active in commodity trading and shipping activities, trade finance and related services. Since its creation in 2014 it acts as the umbrella organisation for the sector in Switzerland, bringing together the 3 regional associations, 190 members and institutions, and over 100 professionals participating in STSA Committees and expert Working Groups.
Geneva Trading and Shipping Association GTSA
Founded in 2006, GTSA is the oldest and largest commodity trading
association in Switzerland, with close to 100 members. GTSA represents the interests of the many commodity trading firms
active along the shores of Lake Geneva and builds on a long tradition of
commodity trading in the region. The association
merged with STSA in 2014 and both associations share the Geneva Secretariat.
Lugano Commodity Trading Association LCTA
Established in 2010, LCTA has over 50 members, principally active in metals, coal and energy trading. Lugano is a thriving trading hub and has developed rapidly since the 2000s thanks to the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce of Ticino. LCTA has built strong ties with Eastern Europe and Central Asian market participants.
Zug Commodity Association ZCA
Established in 2012, ZCA has over 40 members, principally active in metals and energy trading. ZCA keeps a strong focus on providing specialist professional training and education, alongside its support for STSA’s efforts to explain the commodity industry to the authorities and the general public.
As the Association has grown over the years, the STSA governance structure has evolved as well, reflecting both the growth in membership and the increased activity.
The Association is managed by the Executive Board, with the Management Committee (or Bureau as it is known internally) coordinating and monitoring all ongoing projects.
The Advisory Board provides high level guidance on industry-wide affairs, while the STSA Secretariat runs the day-to-day activities of the Association.
For the year 2016-2017, the elected STSA President is Mr David Fransen, Chairman of Vitol SA.
He is assisted by 2 Vice Presidents, Mr Ramon Esteve (ECOM) and Mr Hans Christian Jensen (ADM).
The STSA Secretariat is headed by Dr Stéphane Graber, Secretary General.
Any company engaged in international commodity trading, shipping and its finance, as well as service companies of a certain size related to such activities can apply to become a Member of STSA.
